During Covid-19, the Pokemon TCG has received unprecedented demand. So much demand that the supply cannot keep up and this has caused huge price hikes to the products we love so much.
Recently we responded to a Trustpilot review regarding this and thought we best share our response so that everyone is a little bit more aware of what is going on behind the scenes here at Total Cards.
We are sorry that you do not approve of some of the recent price increases.
There is a lot of consideration put into pricing products and any increases aren't done lightly.
We still aim to be the cheapest online and we do offer a price match if another retailer has them in stock lower than us.
We are not scalpers, and as the company Director, I hope to be able to shed a little light behind the scenes with regards to the recent price increases.
We are a company who is just trying to make sure that during these strange times, when allocations are higher than EVER, that the little stock we do receive is enough to keep the business running.
We have a duty of care to our team whose livelihoods all depend on Total Cards, some of which have mortgages and children or both.
We have a gaming centre which has been closed during lockdown which hasn't been able to provide any income, and while we are receiving no support from the government during Covid, we still have to find ways to ensure that our business is still able to operate and cover all our overheads.
When we place orders with our suppliers, we have a general idea of what quantities we need to sell in order to cover our overheads but when we are receiving significantly less than what we have ordered due to tight allocations, (in some instances only receiving 6 boxes from our suppliers when our order was in the 10's of thousands,) you can see how alarming it is when you are trying to operate a business.
Given this is all we received for a product release, you can start to see how difficult it is for a business to continue operating with such little stock. So at times, prices of products may have to increase.
As we are seeing more availability with certain products, you can see on our site that we are reducing the prices of the products in question.
We hate the price increases just as much as you, as this is against our whole ethos. However, we do hope that this gives you some insight into the struggles we face as a small business given the extreme circumstances that we are experiencing and that we are just trying to do right by our staff and the community and that you may be able to empathise with our situation as we genuinely have no other alternative.
We don’t usually share this kind of information, but we don’t want to lose trust and support from you or any other customer during these difficult times and we hope that by doing so, we are giving you the bigger picture to show that we’re not pricing these products out of greed, but simply to keep the name of Total Cards running and still here when this difficult time has passed.
We would hate to lose you as a customer and your continued support means everything to us.
Hopefully soon, Pokemon products are going to be a lot more available, and we can all get back together to play the game we are all so passionate about.
